What is GIVE & FAST?
GIVE and FAST are two Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) interpersonal effectiveness skills that provide frameworks for navigating conversations while balancing the needs of yourself and others.
The GIVE skill helps you approach conversations in a way that strengthens relationships by showing respect, interest, and understanding. GIVE stands for (be) Gentle, Interested, Validate, and (use an) Easy manner.
The FAST skill helps you maintain self-respect and stay aligned with your values during difficult conversations. FAST stands for (be) Fair, (no) Apologies, Stick to your values, and (be) Truthful.
