Karl Fray

As a clinical supervisor, Karl embodies resilient leadership, working to support young adults managing a wide range of co-occurring disorders. His therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solutions-Focused Therapy modalities. Karl is passionate about helping clients and families navigate change, build emotional endurance, and cultivate confidence in their growth. His areas of expertise span adjustment disorders, complex and traumatic grief, and identity conflicts. In addition to his clinical experience, Karl is certified in Moral Reconation Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD. 

As a marathon runner, Karl’s therapeutic philosophy embodies the discipline and spirit of the sport. Prior to joining The Dorm, Karl served as a Clinical Supervisor and Program Manager at an outpatient substance use program, where he worked with clients diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. He provided a comprehensive range of services, including individual and group therapy, case management, and medication management. After graduating, he relocated from Philadelphia to Virginia, where he began his career in outpatient and inpatient environments. In these settings, Karl worked with a diverse array of populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families using individual, family, and group therapy. 

Karl holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Mansfield University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Temple University. In his free time, he enjoys hiking or running on trails, and he loves exploring new documentaries and restaurants in the city.
