Introduction
Recovery from mental health challenges extends beyond symptom reduction and reflects meaningful change across multiple domains of life. To capture this holistic process, The Dorm developed the Mental Health Recovery Checklist (MHRC), a self-report measure designed to assess progress across six core domains of recovery in young adulthood. These domains include family and relationships, occupation or school, physical health, mental health, spirituality, and social support.
Summary of Findings
This study evaluated the internal consistency and construct validity of the Mental Health Recovery Checklist using data from clients who were discharged between January 2018 and May 2023. Exploratory Factor Analysis identified a unidimensional structure with strong factor loadings across all items. The MHRC demonstrated high reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.88.
These findings support the MHRC as a reliable and valid tool for assessing recovery among young adults. Results highlight the interconnected nature of the six recovery domains and suggest the checklist offers a practical framework for tracking personal growth and clinical improvement over time. Continued research may help refine additional dimensions of recovery and further strengthen the measure’s applicability across settings.
