Nancy Tobias
LMSW Senior Therapist
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Therapist Nancy Tobias has a passion for supporting individuals struggling with substance use disorders and draws on a diverse array of evidence-based treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. Her goal with every client is to help them enjoy and thrive in recovery. She holds a master’s degree in social work with a clinical concentration from The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology and education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton.
Nancy first found her calling working with adults on parole providing individual and group counseling services, guiding clients towards a life of recovery and helping them reduce their risk of prison recidivism. While pursuing her master’s degree, Nancy offered therapy to Holocaust survivors, utilizing CBT and narrative therapy techniques to create a safe space for her clients to share their stories.
Nancy enjoys working closely with a young adult population through psycho-education and skill-building in groups and individual therapy sessions. Her colleagues and clients describe her as innately open-minded and caring: a natural empath. Her client-centered approach and active listening skills have long helped her foster strong therapeutic relationships and she prides herself on her ability to connect with people.
Outside of work, Nancy is a skiing enthusiast who enjoys exploring the world. Her love of learning about new cultures and trying new things has sparked the travel bug (and she can’t wait to make it to the Alps!). Day to day, you’ll find her enjoying a good Netflix binge, trying new restaurants with her friends, and blasting music ranging from Elton John to Kid Cudi.
