Jay Woods

Jay Woods is a compassionate and dynamic social worker dedicated to supporting young adults navigating early adulthood. Skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic frameworks, and the Liberation Health Model, Jay encourages clients to recognize their capacity to build a life aligned with their authentic self.

Jay believes that meaningful change begins with a trusting therapeutic relationship and prioritizes creating a safe, non-judgmental space for clinical work. He is particularly passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community and guiding individuals through identity exploration, self-love, and self-compassion.

Prior to joining The Dorm, Jay’s clinical background spanned acute inpatient detox, hospitals, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams, and street outreach. This diverse experience allowed him to expertly support individuals facing complex mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, and specialized themes such as scrupulosity, hyper-religiosity, and religious trauma. Jay earned his Master of Social Work from the Boston University School of Social Work, with a concentration in Trauma, Violence, & Justice, and holds a Master of Divinity from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

In his free time, Jay enjoys immersing himself in New York City’s culture by seeing theater, visiting art museums, spending time with friends, and exploring new neighborhoods.
