Cristina Escobar

Cristina leads with empathy, and strives to empower young adults through collaboration and trust. As Clinical Supervisor, she oversees and guides members of the clinical team while also  providing ongoing therapy to clients and families. She uses her expertise in trauma to lead the Survivors of Sexual Assault/Abuse (SOSA) group and Advanced Process groups for clients. She previously led the clinical internship program, successfully transitioning several interns to full time clinicians during her time at The Dorm. She holds a Master’s of Science in Social Work from Columbia School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Trinity College. 

When meeting with clients, Cristina takes a holistic, individualized approach to create the best environment for growth. She utilizes a strengths-based perspective and incorporates multiple modalities in therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to best support her client’s unique needs. Additionally, she emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and is dedicated to meeting clients where they are at. 

Cristina found her love of working in mental health while working at the Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center, where she provided psychotherapy for individuals struggling with a wide variety of mental health concerns. Cristina also interned at the Crisis Text Line to provide confidential crisis intervention services.

In her free time, Cristina enjoys live music, New York sports, reading and spending time with friends and family.
