About our Clinical Internships

Exposure to Gold-Standard Care

With 93% of clients presenting with multiple diagnoses, interns gain experience with a diverse, high-acuity population in an intensive outpatient setting, applying evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, RO-DBT, CPT, and MI.

Individual & Group Supervision

Interns receive committed mentorship from our licensed clinicians through weekly individual and group supervision, daily team meetings, and collaborative treatment planning, helping them refine skills and develop their professional voice.

Interdisciplinary Training & Collaboration

Working closely with our interdisciplinary team, interns gain hands-on experience with a unique care model, enhanced by expert mentorship, cross-site collaboration, and monthly in-house clinical trainings.

What types of internships are offered at The Dorm?

As a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, we offer internships across several departments at The Dorm, including clinical therapy, nutrition and dietetics, clinical operations, research, marketing and communications.

How do I qualify for an internship?

Clinical Internships: Open to graduate-level students in social work, counseling, or related fields.

Other Internships: Available to undergraduate and graduate students or early career professionals with a strong interest in pursuing a career in mental health care.

What does a typical day look like for clinical interns?

While experiences vary based on each intern’s strengths and interests, a typical day may include:

Co-facilitating skills-based and process-based therapeutic groups
Providing life skills coaching and fostering positive social interactions
Conducting assessments and maintaining clinical documentation
Participating in weekly individual, group, and co-facilitator supervision
Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration through daily team meetings

How long are internships?

Clinical Internships:

Academic Year Internship: Runs from fall through spring semester for second-year or advanced-standing master's students
Summer Internship: Runs from June through August for counseling students between their generalist and specialist years.

Non-Clinical Internships: Typically align with the summer season or academic year, customized to fit educational or vocational needs.

Are internships part-time or full-time?

Academic Year Internships: Follow the hour requirements of each student’s graduate program.
Summer Internships: Part-time, up to 25 hours per week.
Non-Clinical Internships: Range from 10 to 25 hours per week.

Are internships paid?

Academic Year Internships: For academic credit only.
Summer Internships: Paid, offering valuable hands-on clinical experience.
Non-Clinical Internships: Compensation is determined on a case-by-case basis, considering the individual’s educational status and requirements.
