At The Dorm, we commonly treat learning differences including attention deficit disorder, processing disorders, non-verbal learning disorders, executive function and dyslexia. If you or a loved one is struggling with learning or academic functioning, please contact our team to learn more about how we can help.
Learning differences affect how people understand, remember and respond to information. We know that everyone learns differently but some of us have cognitive or physical impairments that make learning more challenging. These are some of the diagnoses we help treat:
Learning differences present many challenges for young adults and their families, but we know that being in the right academic environment and given the proper support, clients can often overcome their challenges and be successful.
We focus on providing each client with the comprehensive skills and support they need to be successful in school and beyond. As the experience of learning differences can vary widely from person to person, we approach treatment with a highly individualized approach.
AT THE DORM, OUR INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TREATING INDIVIDUALS WHO STRUGGLE WITH LEARNING INCLUDES:
Each client receives a comprehensive academic assessment so that our team of academic advisors, tutors and therapists can provide a thorough, individualized treatment plan that meets their goals and their needs. Before meeting with each new client, our academic team compiles and reviews any and all testing, transcripts and other supporting documentation that will help them understand a client's educational journey. If there is no past education or neuro-psychological testing or if any test is outdated, we are able to help clients get tested and/or retested at The Dorm.
Our team of academic staff will advise and support clients on any number of needs including: navigating local college and vocational school options; enrolling in an online class; assisting clients with filling out and submitting college, school or program applications; assistance selecting and signing up for classes; academic tutoring; executive functioning classes and coaching; assistance obtaining support services at a college, school or program that a client is attending
Each of The Dorm locations features a dedicated 'learning lab' with internet access and room for quiet, distraction-free study. This is also space where clients can receive learning support and practice time-management, study skills and self-regulation in a safe, calm environment.
