At The Dorm, we treat Borderline Personality Disorder in young adults. If you or a loved one is struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder, please contact our team to learn more about howwe can help.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder characterized by instability in relationships, impulsivity, volatility, negative self-image and thought patterns as well as unhealthy behaviors such as self-harm. An accurate diagnosis is important for two reasons:
Environmental and genetic factors can impact whether or not an individual has a borderline personality disorder.
Personality disorders vary from person to person and a key emphasis is to help clients develop the skills they need to manage negative thought patterns and problematic behaviors. Our job is to provide the best intensive, integrated, holistic and comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan possible.
AT THE DORM, OUR INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TREATING INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER INCLUDES:
Education is provided to help clients better understand what borderline personality disorder is, how it impacts them, the ways they can live with BPD and what tools and skills they will need to build to manage their symptoms.
For borderline personality disorder, DBT skills are essential. Each client meets with their individual skills therapist who helps them to develop and integrate skills for everyday life. These skills can include learning to take their medication regularly, developing and being accountable to a schedule, role-playing through tough scenarios, and so much more.
Group meetings help clients build the tools they can use in their daily lives in a safe, peer environment. These may include DBT, process and social groups, meditation, DBT skills coaching, CBT, seeking safety and relationship groups.
Unless a client is working with an established outside provider, we offer individual therapy to help clients process and work through living with a borderline personality disorder and the ways in which it impacts their lives and relationships.
We help clients' support systems develop the skills and knowledge they need to best support their loved one. Attachment work is often a key part of a client's treatment on an individual and family level.
Many of our clients with borderline personality disorder benefit from being in a supportive community of other young adults with similar (or different struggles!) who can empathize and uplift each other.
Treatment of borderline personality disorder may require medication in conjunction with treatment. Medication is managed as part of a holistic treatment plan. This is carefully monitored with all outside providers to ensure medications are utilized properly and are proving effective.
There is a strong connection between mental health and physical well being with a borderline personality disorder. We have providers that can help to establish strong mental and physical practices including yoga, meditation and acupuncture.
