Bipolar Disorder, including Type I, Type II, Cyclothymic, are all diagnoses that we treat at The Dorm. If you or a loved one is struggling with Bipolar Disorder, please contact our team to learn more about how we can help.
Living with Bipolar Disorder can mean managing several highs and loves. Symptoms of either extreme elevated mood (often referred to as mania) or extreme sadness can be unpredictable and come on quickly and intensely. These symptoms are often difficult to manage and can be stressful. Many young adults who struggle with Bipolar Disorder will find that it can interfere with their daily function (at school, at home, at work) and with their interpersonal relationships.
Many individuals with Bipolar Disorder will also present with a co-occurring disorder such as substance use disorder, trauma, or other psychological disorders.
Our approach is to help each client with a tailored treatment plan which includes individual therapy, group therapy, coaching assistance, life skills support and other clinical and therapeutic interventions.
AT THE DORM, OUR INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TREATING INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER INCLUDES:
We provide psychoeducation at both the group and individual level to help empower, support and validate clients as they learn about the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder. We find that education is a powerful treatment tool.
Many of our groups such as mindfulness, CBT and DBT help clients with symptom management and with developing the skills they need to cope and self-regulate. Our social groups offer clients a chance to spend time in the community with other young adults who are managing their individual symptoms, insecurities and personal diagnoses.
Our life skills therapists help clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including medication management which can be vital for anyone struggling with Bipolar Disorder.
The Dorm works closely with treating psychiatrists to support medication compliance and management.
Yoga, meditation, mindfulness and other forms of exercise can be an important complement to clinical intervention, both for symptom management and stress relief. We offer all of this and more through a team of experienced professionals that include certified yoga instructors and personal trainers.
