Robert L. Johnson

Robert L. Johnson has dedicated his career to improving clients’ lives through trainings in sexuality, trauma-informed therapies, and psychodynamic family of origin issues. His extensive experience in mental health has informed his passion for working with clients and families to improve relationships and wellbeing. 

Robert has served in various capacities within the chemical dependency and mental health field, beginning with his work with adolescents and their families at Behavioral Health of Baton Rouge. His experience as a primary psychotherapist for Sierra Tucson’s Sexual Recovery Program allowed him to develop and refine his skills in this critical area of treatment. His subsequent work with juvenile sex offenders as a clinical director in Washington State helped develop his expertise in therapeutic group work related to sexual concerns and childhood trauma.
 
Robert worked at Caron Renaissance for over 25 years and served there as a primary therapist, director of Family and Specialty Services, and clinical director, honing his clinical and leadership skills. He then served as the national clinical director at Hopestreet Treatment, LLC before joining The Dorm. 

Robert has enhanced his abilities through years of training in different therapeutic modalities, including Psychodrama Training, Focused Expressive Psychotherapy Training, and trainings with Patrick Carnes, Robert Weiss, and the late Susan Lee. He is a Certified Trauma Therapist (C.T.T.) through the Post Traumatic Stress Institute in Houston, TX, and a Board-Certified Sex Therapist (CST) in the state of Florida. He holds and has held various certifications and licenses in Florida, Arizona, Washington, Louisiana, and internationally, and has expertise in mental health, multicultural, process addictions, and forensic counseling. 

Among his many accomplishments, Robert is a Diplomate and Board-Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and a member of the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. He served our country with the U.S. Marine Corps (1980-1986) and was honorably discharged.
