Miguel Edwards

Miguel Edwards specializes in using talk therapy, CBT, and other evidence-based modalities to connect with and meet the needs of his clients. He is passionate about working with the ASD community and their families, and is also an advocate for veterans’ mental health. Miguel holds a BSN in nursing, a bachelor degree in psychology from Washington Advent University, and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Therapy from South University in Virginia Beach.

Miguel found his calling when his daughter was diagnosed with autism as a toddler. As a special education teacher, he discovered the challenges of the education system related to children with special needs and found a passion for advocating and providing a voice for the voiceless in the community. While on this journey, Miguel developed skills working in youth detention centers providing counseling and coaching to young adults. Also during this time, he gained experience in marriage counseling, anger management, and pediatric and adult healthcare.

Miguel is a combat arms veteran of the United States Army. After having been diagnosed with PTSD during service, he gained useful firsthand understanding of the therapeutic process and continually challenged the stigma related to mental health and counseling in the veteran community.

Outside work, Miguel’s friends would describe him as a family man who enjoys good jokes, good music, and the company of caring people. He also enjoys reading fantasy novels and manga, watching anime, sports, hiking and spending time with family and pets.
