Mackenna Minehan

Mackenna received her master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from San Diego State. Born and raised in San Diego, Mackenna moved to New York City in 2012, braving each and every winter to make NYC her second home.

Mackenna has nearly a decade of experience in the field of social work, including several years at the YMCA and San Diego Center for Children. Prior to The Dorm, Mackenna worked as the Pediatric Social Worker at Montefiore Children’s Hospital. While at Montefiore, she was responsible for assessing and supporting patients and families who were eligible for heart, liver or kidney transplants. Working as a liaison between the doctors/hospital and the families during such a critical time in their life taught Mackenna about the power of resiliency and the importance of effective coping.

Mackenna has extensive training in CBT, DBT, EMDR, mindfulness practice and exposure work. She practices yoga daily and recently completed an Ashtanga Yoga teaching certification. As a lifelong athlete, Mackenna values the importance of a physical regimen and the commitment to achieving a mind-body connection. Her personal experience and dedication to physical fitness, healthy eating and outdoor activities inform her holistically-integrated clinical interventions.

In 2015, Mackenna joined The Dorm and brought her sunny, sincere and light-hearted energy. Like others on the team, Mackenna believes clients can change their mental and physical health through education, empowerment, self-care and movement.
