John McGeehan

John holds a Master of Social Work degree from New York University with a specialty certification in substance abuse, intervention and related co-occurring disorders. As a native to the northeast, John moved abroad to Tokyo, Japan during his teenage years. It was there that he began his work as an interventionist and placement specialist for families looking for therapeutic alternatives outside of Japan. After over a decade of working with families and witnessing the transformation of his adolescent and young adult clients, John founded The Dorm which has since set a new standard in the world of young adult treatment. He is a regular contributor to school-based prevention for secondary schools and parent associations throughout the northeast and abroad.

John grew up in Westport, CT and is the middle child of four sisters – as he likes to say, “I was destined to become a therapist as I have been listening since a very early age”. In his off time, John is an avid sailor and rock climber. He lives with his wife and twin sons on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
