Joe Parker

Joe Parker believes that every client is an expert in their own experience, and as a clinician, he works collaboratively to identify and cultivate each client’s strengths and treatment goals. His multi-dimensional, psychodynamic approach includes elements of cognitive and behavioral therapiesMotivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems. Above all, he carefully examines each client’s unique culture, community, and identity, and fosters a warm, nonjudgemental relationship to invite change and foster well-being. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, and a master’s degree from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, with a field of practice specialization in gender and sexuality. 

Joe is passionate about working with clients with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Before becoming a clinician, he spent nearly a decade working with students and young people on social justice and human rights campaigns. After his graduate work, he completed specialized training in clinical work with LGBTQ+ patients at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City. He went on to spend several years working in community mental healthcare with Weill Cornell’s Institute for Geriatric Psychiatry.

When not at The Dorm, Joe enjoys time with family and friends, DJing a house party, cutting it up on the dance floor, hosting game night, or taking in a Lake Michigan sunset.
