Gil Weiss

Therapist Gil Weiss, LMSW is passionate about mental healthcare and addiction from recovery as a result of his own personal and professional experience. He began his work in the field as a Recovery Technician at Transcend Recovery, a sober living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. There, he enjoyed working with young adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders and was eager to learn more, which influenced him to pursue a master’s degree at NYU Silver School of Social Work.

Within the Master’s Program at NYU, Gil was part of the Substance Use Focused Learning Opportunity, a specialized program focused on clinical work with individuals diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Gil gained valuable field experience as a Clinical Intern at Inter-Care, an OASAS licensed outpatient treatment center in Manhattan. He most recently worked as a Primary Therapist at New York Center for Living, where he supported young adults and adolescents in early recovery from addiction.

Gil is action-oriented in his individual work and understands that many young people are ambivalent about change. Thus, he uses a Strengths-Based approach and Motivational Interviewing skills to assess a client’s readiness for change. He also believes exercise and movement is an invaluable tool in improving one’s mental health. In his free time, he plays basketball, pickle ball, and enjoys walking around Central Park listening to sports podcasts.
